Connecting to Gerald Smith
After he spent some time in the north and surfing in south India, Gerald Smith—my partner and traveling companion in Mahe—wrote an appreciation about our host, Rathnakaran, and some of the work we did together.
Here’s what he said: Mr. Smith’s Blog Post.

So glad you linked to his page. It’s neat to see tidbits of your experience through your colleague’s lens, particularly his confirmation of how consistent you were in stepping out of the familiar and truly embracing new experiences, and also stepping from the sidelines into full-on engagement with everyone you met. Six months or a year from now, I can’t wait to hear how this experience created new roots and flowerings in you as a teacher and as (now) a man of the world. I also look forward to the fresh take in a couple week. Best regards.

Matt: One of the unexpected benefits of the Teachers for Global Classrooms was the connections with fellow U.S. teachers. We expected to connect with our host teachers in India but we also came together as a cohort. We’re now following each other through What’s App postings. A few of our members are already back in school and teaching (!!!), so we have a lot of stories to share. I hope I can continue this level of openness and sharing when school resumes for us. —Bill
