India Trip Details
The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) is sending me to India in July. This blog is part of my capstone project or Global Education Guide (GEG). It will capture my day-to-day activity this summer as I travel from Vermont to London, New Delhi, Mahe, and other Indian cities, back to London, and then to Vermont.
For me, the trip begins on Sunday, 30 June 2019 with a flight from Burlington VT to Philadelphia and then to Heathrow in the UK by Monday, 1 July 2019.
Later that day, the cohort assembles from our various homes and we fly to New Delhi together.
The week in New Delhi involves orientation and group work. Here’s the schedule for Week One in New Delhi.
The next Sunday, we assemble as teams of two and join our cooperating teachers at schools around the country. My partner, Gerald Smith, and I will visit the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school in Mahe, a town located in Kerala state on the southwest peninsula and facing the Arabian Sea. Here’s our itinerary for Week 2.
Rathnakaran Kozhukkunnon Othayoth is the school’s principal and our host.
The maps of India website describes Kerala state as having “… varied demography, different traditions and culture … [and] one of the most attractive tourist destinations in India. Kerala is tops among Indian states in human development, mass literacy, economic parity, women empowerment, harmony between religions, progressive and liberal mindset of people, least in corruption, etc. which makes it literally ‘Gods Own Country.'”
